Meet Sam Bowman & Misti

I would like everyone to meet Sam Bowman, of Wauseon Ohio, and his 25 year old pony named Misti. Sam and Misti first met, one night back in December 2005.

I received a call from my veterinarian one day telling me about a family that was interested in locating a pony to help their 4 year old son recover from two open hearts and some minor cardiac cauterization's. Sam had been attending a therapeutic riding center one day a week to help with his healing process. Once his parents realized that a pony of Sam's own would help this little guy recover quickly, they started the search which eventually lead to me being called.

I am all about educating our children when it comes to proper care and being responsible for our animals, especially when I have seen first hand what kind of amazing powers these horses have when it comes to aiding in the healing process with humans.
So I set into action with some help from some wonderful friends of mine, to find that perfect little pony, for this wonderful little boy!

This is when we stumbled across Misti. We located her at a therapeutic riding center in North Western Michigan. After talking to the owner we decided that we would make the drive to see Misti and 2 others that they had available. I liked the fact that all these ponies had been in the program so they were ready to help aid Sam in his long road to recovery.

Upon arrival at the farm, we met with Katie, she took us around the grounds and showed us all the available ponies. It didn't take us long to decide that Misti was the best candidate for Sam's new best friend. Once all the paper work was done and Misti was loaded into the trailer with papers and records in hand, we were back on the road with Sam's new pony and heading back to Ohio..

We arrived back at Sam's home around 8 pm that December evening, it was cold and dark out. But once Sam new we were home, it took him no time to get dressed and out to the barn with his mom Debbie.
I think it was love at first sight, the excitement and look of this little boy's face was priceless, and it was because of this little white pony!

I love the fact that there are still people in this world today that understand the power these animals carry within them, the power to make the worst days seem bright, the power to teach a person patients and responsibility. The power to bring a smile to anyone's face that will give them a chance......especially a second chance. This is a little boy with a big smile that cannot go unnoticed!

From all of us at Hobbie Horse Stables and Sanctuary, we would like to Thank all the caring people who helped us raise the $500.00 to purchase Misti for Sam. All the best to Sam, Misti, Brian and Debbie.

 Regards, Craig Lundgren

I would like to encourage everyone who loves horses to pick up a copy of, " After the Finish Line" By Bill Heller, and read it. It could change a lot of minds on the brutal and barbaric act of horses slaughter in the USA and Canada.

"The Dog Breed Handbook" by Joan Palmer
This book is an easy read that points out all the interesting facts from coat patterns and colors to size of the dogs, proper housing requirements, amount of exercise required, and the dogs over all personality. It's a book that every animal lover or dog rescuer should have on their bookshelf
